Waipareira hosts National Māori Strategic Partners Hui with Oranga Tamariki
Te Whānau o Waipareira has hosted the National Māori Strategic Partners Hui, bringing Māori strategic partners from across the motu together with Oranga Tamariki chief executive Amanda Malu and her executive team.
Held quarterly, the hui is a cornerstone of the ongoing partnership between Māori organisations and Oranga Tamariki. It gives partners a direct line to the agency's leadership to talk through how the relationship is progressing and where it's heading next.
That approach shows up in the six services Waipareira currently delivers under this mahi. Our Contact Centre, Whare Māmā & Pēpi, Rangatahi Wraparound, Whare Tamawāhine, Whare Tamatāne and Kaipoipoi. Each plays a distinct role in wrapping support around whānau at different stages, all working toward the same long-term outcomes.
At the centre of it all is a whānau-led approach. Whānau identify what matters first, what's creating pressure and what they want to change. Kaimahi then work relationally to understand strengths, aspirations and the wider circumstances shaping each whānau's experience. From there, they translate those aspirations into shared plans, connect the right support and stay alongside whānau as things change. Progress doesn't come from a single intervention.
Grounded in this same practice, bringing partners together regularly focuses on shaping a strategic partnership, not just an operational one. It's a deliberate choice by both sides to keep engagement sustained and grounded in what it actually takes to walk alongside whānau, for the benefit of all tamariki and whānau. A foundation partners see as essential to any real, lasting change.
